He collaborated with international musicians and Khan mostly sang in Urdu and Punjabi and his first major hit was a Qawwali, Haq Ali Ali. Nusrat Fateh Ali’s first public appearance was at an annual music festival, known as Jashn-e-Baharan, organised by Radio Pakistan. His father, Ustad Fateh Ali Khan was a well-known musicologist, vocalist, instrumentalist, and qawwal. If I could understand you, then how could you be god.The legendary singer was born into a family where music was revered. If I could comprehend you (if my mind could encircle you) then how could you be infinite. If I can get my hands on you, you are an idol. I am confused about what and who you are. Jo samajh meN aa gaya phir vo Khuda kyuN kar hua 1.without limit, infinite Haath aao to but, haath na aao to Khuda hoĪql meN jo ghir gaya la-intiha 1 kyuN kar hua Hairaan huN is baat pe, tum kaun ho kya ho If you did not even come into my thoughts, how would I have been able to conceive that there is a god. That which I call “me” (my existence), if is not (a part of) “you”, then what is it. If you are not, then how can refusal be meaningful. Tum ek gorakh dhanda ho 1.refusal 2.denial 3.life, existence You become “non-existent” and disappear somewhere then you become manifest and appear somewhere else. You are not to be found either in the house of idols nor in the house of god but in the heart that has love. He/she who is immerserd in love, only such a one has achieved something. KahiN tu hast 7 bun kar aa gaya hai 1.love 2.lost, engrossed, immersed 3.house of idols, temple 4.Kaaba, house of god 5.broken (heart) used here to mean the heart that feels pain/love 6.non-existence 7.existence, life Your resplendent face is the lamp in both houses. Haram 1 o dayr 2 meN hai jalwa 3-e purfan 4 teraĭo gharauN ka hai charaaGh ek ruKh 5-e raushan 6 tera When except for you there is no other (lord, creator) then I don’t understand why you hide from us. Tum ek gorakh dhanda ho 1.except for 2.present, existing Phir samajh meN nahiN aata tera purdah karna Jab bajuz 1 teray koi doosra maujood 2 nahiN

Searching does not lead to you, no amount of searching helps and the puzzle is that you are right where we are. But I have seen you enthroned in my heart (so you must be real). I have searched for you in temple and mosque, but you are not to be found there. Tum ek gorakh dhanda ho 1.temple 2.mosque 3.resident, enthroned 4.show/trick Magar tashreef-farma 3 tujhko apne dil meN dekha haiĭhoonDay nahi milay ho na-DhoonDay say kahiN tumĪur phir ye tamasha 4 hai, jahaaN hum haiN vahiN tum

Tujhay dayr 1-o-haram 2 meN maiN ne DhoonDa tu nahi milta You are manifest in every particle in all your grandeur yet the mind is puzzled (not knowing) what you are and what you look like. Tum ek gorakh dhanda ho 1.particle (of dust) 2.grandeur 3.manifest 4.puzzled HairaaN 4 hai magar aql ke kaisa hai tu kya hai Har zarre 1 meN kiss shaan 2 say tu jalwa-numa 3 hai Ho bhi nahi aur har jaa 1 ho, tum ek gorakh dhanda ho 1.place (All) seekers have vanished, ground into dust but still no one could find any evidence of you. For the sake of a sight of you, Oh, how many places have I not looked. Sometimes I looked for you here, sometimes I went there. Tum ek gorakh dhanda 6 ho 1.sight 2.for the sake of 3.away from home, traveler, seeker 4.trampled underfoot 5.mark, proof 6.tricky business, mystery Kisi talak na tera aaj tak nishaaN 5 pahuNcha Ghareeb 3 miT gaye, paamaal 4 ho gaye laikin Tumhaari deed 1 ki Khaatir 2 kahaaN kahaaN pahuNcha Kabhi yahaaN tumheN DhoonDa, kabhi vahaaN pahuNcha Overall – a highly enjoyable sufi composition, even if not exactly a chaste urdu classical literary structure. Typically in a qawwali, peripherally related asha’ar of other poets are inserted by the singer. I have attempted to correct them (perhaps commit some of my own in the process). This has been compiled from sources that wrote it down from nusrat fateh ali Khan’s qawwali performance. I could not find any authentic written version.
